Easter half term is just around the corner, and if you’re looking to keep the kids entertained without breaking the bank, Barnsley has plenty to offer. From town centre trails to creative workshops, here are five fantastic things to do in and around the borough this April.
Colour Your Own Easter Garden at Alhambra
For those who enjoy a bit of arts and crafts, the Alhambra Shopping Centre is hosting a "Colour Your Own Easter Garden" event. Children can get stuck into some seasonal creativity right in the middle of their shopping trip. It’s a drop-in session, making it a perfect low-stress activity for a busy afternoon.
Dates: 31 March – 1 April (10am - 4pm)
Fees: Free

Easter Trail at The Glass Works
Kick off the holidays with a hunt through the heart of the town. From Saturday 28 March to Sunday 12 April, families can take part in the free Easter Trail at The Glass Works. Simply pick up a map and see if you can spot all the colourful eggs hidden around the shops and square. It’s a great way to explore the new centre while keeping the little ones active.
Dates: 28 March – 12 April
Fees: Free

Easter Egg Hunt at Wentworth Castle Gardens
If you fancy a bit of fresh air, head over to the stunning Wentworth Castle Gardens. They are running a nature-inspired Easter trail where kids can complete activities to earn a chocolate treat. While normal admission applies for non-members, the trail itself is a budget-friendly addition to a day out in the parkland.
Dates: 28 March – 8 April (10am - 4pm)
Fees: £3.50 per trail (plus normal admission)

Radical Robots at Elsecar Heritage Centre
Barnsley is the UK’s first "Tech Town," and you can celebrate that history at Elsecar Heritage Centre. On 1 April, families can join the "Radical Robots" workshop to build their own mechanical creations. It’s a brilliant way to mix local history with hands-on STEM learning for a very small fee.
Date: 1 April (10am - 3pm)
Fees: £3 per child

Inflatable Fun Days at the Metrodome
For kids with energy to burn, the Metrodome is bringing back its massive inflatable assault course. This isn't free, but it’s a high-energy way to spend a morning if the weather turns grey. There are various time slots available throughout the holidays, ensuring plenty of space for everyone to bounce.
Dates: 4 April – 12 April (9:30am - 3:00pm slots)
Fees: From £6 per child
