Barnsley is proud to host a major nationwide exhibition this summer at The Civic, and it includes a section decorated to Barnsley FC memorabilia!

This exciting event shines a spotlight on the rich and varied creative passions of everyday people, celebrating the makers, modifiers, crafters, and collectors whose hobbies bring colour and joy to our lives.
Come As You Really Are is part of a larger national project presented in collaboration with award-winning artist Hetain Patel and the renowned arts organisation Artangel.

The exhibition is one of 13 across the UK, showcasing hundreds of hand-crafted objects and
personal collections from people across Barnsley and Yorkshire.
It’s a unique opportunity to see creativity thriving beyond traditional art spaces, expanding the idea
of who can be called an artist.
One of the standout features for Barnsley visitors is the remarkable display of rare Barnsley FC memorabilia curated by lifelong supporter Frank Frostick. Reds fans will no doubt appreciate this special section that celebrates the town’s deep connection to its beloved club.

Alongside this, visitors can enjoy a unique collection of over 150 vintage board games collected locally, dazzling drag couture by artist Magenta Pimenta, and striking artworks by Hetain Patel himself, including his famous car sculptures.
The exhibition also offers unique access to parts of Barnsley Civic that have not been open to the public for over 25 years, making this a rare chance to explore the venue in a new way.

Whether you’re a hobbyist, an art lover, or simply curious, Come As You Really Are invites you to celebrate creativity in all its forms right here in Barnsley.
This free exhibition is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm.
