Barnsley to show their respect to local legend Brian Glover

To commentate the 25th anniversary of Brian Glovers death, a blue plaque will be unveiled in the town this Thursday.

Brian Glover is most commonly recognised as being the no-nonsense P.E teacher in Kes, a film that put Barnsley firmly on the map in the late 1960s.

Ken loach, the director of Kes, will also be making a welcomed return to our town to take part in the celebration of Brian’s life and career.

Despite early ideas to have the new plaque placed outside the Civic, it’s new home will be based on Wellington Steet; a nod to Brian’s previous credit working on a documentary on that very road.

Thursdays celebration will begin at 11:30am in Peel Square, with the plaque being unveiled at 12:15pm. Accompanied by a speech from the Mayor, it’s expected that Ken Loach will also say a few words about the late, great Brian Glover.

Ken Loach will complete his visit to Barnsley with a talk at the College about his life as a director and experiences of working on Kes.
