Barnsley town centre has just scored big by securing the Purple Flag accreditation for
the sixth year in a row!

The Purple Flag scheme focuses on enhancing the experience for people out and about from 5pm to
5am, and Barnsley is clearly nailing it!
The town's success is largely thanks to the strong partnerships formed between local businesses, authorities, and community groups. They’ve come together to create a unified vision for what Barnsley can offer during the night.

One standout feature in their submission was the Licensing Security and Vulnerability Initiative (LSAVI), which has helped many venues achieve high safety ratings. Training for staff working in the night-time economy has been a game-changer, too.
With initiatives like taxi marshals, the ‘Ask for Angela’ safety scheme and the continued development of Barnsley’s Violence Against Women and Girls agenda, visitors can feel secure while enjoying the nightlife.

The assessment team had great things to say about these efforts, highlighting how they contribute to a safe atmosphere for everyone.
Councillor Sir Steve Houghton praised the town's sixth consecutive Purple Flag accreditation, highlighting collaborative efforts among local partners to ensure a vibrant and safe night-time economy.

Barnsley’s achievement in maintaining the Purple Flag accreditation speaks volumes about the hard work put in by everyone involved. This recognition not only boosts the town's reputation but also encourages more people to come and
experience what Barnsley has to offer after dark.
Here’s to many more years of vibrant
and safe nights in Barnsley!
