Remember Remember the 5th of November: What’s happening for bonfire night across Barnsley!

'Bonfire Night', better known as 'Guy Fawkes Night', is quickly approaching us, and we’re all eager to learn what Barnsley has to offer this year!

The famous night takes place every 5th of November to mark the failed 17th century attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up parliament and assassinate the reigning king.

Ever since that mounentous day, we have all come together to light bonfires, be in awe of sparklers and watch dazzling fireworks. And like many towns and cities across the UK, we in Barnsley are not ready to let this historic holiday burn out just yet.

So, what's going off across the town?

Starting off, Wombwell Maine's C&Sa are hosting a fireworks event on Friday the 4th of November. With the gates opening at 17:30, it is the perfect event for family and friends. There will be a kids fair ground and a range of food available waiting for you to feast on. Options include burgers, hotdogs and pizzas - what more could you ask for? This is located on Hough Lane, Wombwell, Barnsley.

On the big night itself, Penistone Show Ground (S36 6DW) are holding a bonfire and fireworks display. Open to all, It is the ‘Biggest and best’ show yet, with gates opening at 18:30, the bonfire lighting will take place at 19:00 and fireworks set to light the sky at 19:30. The event is charging £5 per person for this unforgettable evening.

On the same day, Saturday 5th November,

The Grey Horse have planned a special evening with a bonfire and fireworks set to dazzle to nights sky. The event starts at 18:00 and can be found on Kensington Road, Barnsley. Hot food is on the menu also with tickets at £2 each.

Alternatively, you can spend Bonfire night at CMADE Outdoors (on Cone Lane, Silkstone, S754LY). Also being held on the 5th of November, the event is open from 18:00 up until 23:00. The bonfire is planned to be lit at 18:30 shortly followed by their fabulous fireworks. Later at 20:00, The One Man Down are making an appearance with live music in The Barn. There will also be food on offer, so don’t worry, you won’t be going hungry!

Over on Ollerton Road, Athersley Rec are hosting a bonfire perfect for the whole family. Not only are they set to light up a bonfire, fireworks and hot food, but they are also blowing up bouncy castles for the occasion.

Cannon Hall Farm's bonfire spectacular event is also back for 2022! Taking place on November 6th, it is the perfect day out for family and friends. Not only can you see their variety of animals and reptiles, but their range of playgrounds will be available so the kids can explore safely. Targeted at younger children, the fireworks are set to music ensuring an extra layer of entertainment fills the sky. This is a full day event, with a kids disco at 13:00, bonfire at 16:30 and fireworks at 18:00. Costing £12.96 per person, you can find Cannon Hall on Bark House Lane, Cawthorne, Barnsley.

From what was a major destruction of politics, over time we have turned into a fun tradition, filling the atmosphere with festivity and fireworks. So, whatever you're doing this week, have a fabulous (and safe) Guy Fawkes night!
